At COP27, the UN High-Level Expert Group (HLEG) delivered its Integrity Matters report on the net zero commitments of non-state entities. Commissioned by UN Secretary-General António Guterres to tackle greenwashing, the 10 recommendations clarify — in detail — what companies, investors, regions and cities should consider when setting and implementing their net zero targets.
Here, Net Zero Tracker project lead John Lang presents the guidelines visually so they can become accessible to as wide an audience as possible.
The 10 recommendations build on science and existing credibility frameworks in voluntary efforts to crystalise what is now a clear set of best practices on net zero. For more information on the recommendations (and the five principles that accompanied them) see the full report.
To coincide with the report’s launch, we provided a snapshot Recommendations and Current Realities showing the gaps that entities must fill to drive net zero efforts in the right direction and bend the curve of emissions downwards.
The above is the first of many explainers John will create so net zero policy, science and best practice can become more accessible to a broader audience.
If you would like to use the above for yourself (or your classroom), please drop him a note over email or Twitter. He can provide them in various formats.
